Apartments and suites

Eleven units, eleven birds.

No apartment here is called 204. Every unit carries the name of a bird, and every one is laid out differently, from 24.70 to 60.51 m². Added to those are the three large suites in the house by the pond, just below.

Staying longer

Three large suites for weeks rather than nights.

Every unit can be booked for one night or for a month. Guests who stay longer usually take one of the three large suites in the house at the pond: more rooms, a desk of your own and enough space that weeks do not start to feel narrow. They carry bird names as well, and now and then the black swans swim right in front of the terrace of number 14.

The house

A private place, grown over centuries.

There has been a building here since 1225, first a moated castle called Castrum Ricklingen. The present house dates from the eighteenth century and stands in Schloss Ricklingen, which is the name of the district of Garbsen, and it is the name of the house. Half-timbered wings around a courtyard, and behind them 80,000 square metres of park, two ponds and meadows that only stop at the horizon. Drive through the gate and up the avenue and you have arrived at a different speed.

Today there are fourteen apartments and suites: for a night, a week or a month. That is the difference from a hotel room: your own kitchen, a table to eat at, often a terrace. And still everything a serviced house provides.

At the water

A natural bathing pond, not a pool.

Plant filtration instead of chlorine, a wooden deck at the entry, and eighty thousand square metres of park behind you.

Arrival

You arrive when you arrive.

There is no desk to wait at. Your code reaches you beforehand and the key safe is staffed around the clock, by the technology. Whenever it can be arranged, your host welcomes you herself and shows you the house. If it cannot, everything you need for the first evening is already there.

Check-in from 3 pm, check-out until 10.30 am, breakfast from 7.30 to 10 am in the breakfast room. Arriving earlier or leaving later is possible too: check-in from 1 pm for 20 euros, check-out until noon for 25 euros. You choose both in the booking system.

One note for your arrival: simply drive through the main gate, which stands open. On the grounds, signs lead you right up to your apartment.

The park

A park where animals are at home too.

Alpacas, chickens and quail live on these 80,000 square metres, geese, ducks and black swans on the ponds, and an apiary whose honey stands on the breakfast table. All of it is at least three hundred metres from the apartments: you walk over when you feel like it, and notice nothing of it when you do not.

The walk through the park

For many guests the round through the park is the best part of the day, and it usually begins right after breakfast: coffee in hand, across the meadow, over to the alpacas, who come closer out of curiosity and let themselves be fed. Then watching the swans, strawberries and fruit from the garden, and back along the avenue.

And then what comes of its own accord: deer on the meadow in the morning, deer out on the fields at dusk, storks in front of the terrace, now and then a fox, and once a beaver strolling unhurriedly from one pond to the other.

The morning

One long table and tables for two.

Breakfast from 7.30 to 10 am, included in every rate, even if you stay a single night. On the table: eggs from our own hens, honey from our own bees, freshly baked bread, pressed juices, ginger shots, fruit from the garden. Flowers, always.

Sit at the long table and you fall into conversation. Prefer your own company and you take one of the separate tables in the breakfast room. And anyone who wants the morning entirely to themselves has a kitchen of their own in every unit. Tell us what you need when you arrive: decaf, lactose-free milk, gluten-free bread, a vegan selection.

The day

Sauna, bathing pond, tennis court. No booking needed.

The sauna is ready around the clock; you switch it on yourself and it needs time to heat. The swimming pond is a natural bathing pond for house guests: no chlorine, a plant filter, a wooden deck at the entry. Gym and tennis court are open day and night: cross trainer, treadmill, Power Plate, ergometer, recumbent bike and mats.

Nature trail, grill hut and bikes

Add table tennis outdoors, a nature trail through flowers and herbs, the beehives in the park and the grill hut, which we reserve for you free of charge if you let us know beforehand. Cycling routes begin at the door, and bicycles are available on request.

No surcharge, no key card, and no booking except for the grill hut. And the park is large enough to walk in for an hour without passing the same tree twice.

The evening

Fireplace, library, bar and a chessboard.

The ground-floor lounge is where, in the evening, you have nothing left to do. The fire burns through the cold half of the year and there is a bar in the lounge. Coffee and tea around the clock, cake in the cabinet, something to pick at with a nightcap. The library holds more books than remote controls.

Irina Fuhrmann.

This house is not administered, it is run. Irina Fuhrmann is the host, and she is the person guests mean when their reviews speak of the hostess. Whenever it can be arranged she welcomes guests herself, shows them the house and lays the table. With fourteen units that happens pleasantly often. It cannot be promised, and so it does not stand here as a promise.

What guests describe most often in their reviews is not the square metres but the small things: a jar of honey on the dining table, an upgrade on a wedding anniversary, help at the key safe at half past eleven at night. Beside her stands Wolfgang Fuhrmann, co-owner of the house. But the tone here is hers.

Food and drink

Breakfast in the house, good places for dinner nearby.

Breakfast is included in every rate, every unit has its own kitchen, and coffee, tea and cake are available all day. There is no restaurant in the house; for dinner you drive a few minutes to Garbsen, the Blauer See or Hanover.

In the village and in Garbsen
There is no restaurant in the district itself, and you should know that. The nearest are in Garbsen and at the Blauer See: Bavaria Alm, L’Osteria, Azzurro The Beach. Then Kalimera in Hanover and the Wunstorfer Ratskeller. All by car, none on foot.
For a special evening
The gourmet restaurant at Schlosshotel Münchhausen or the Bootshaus at the Maschsee, around half an hour each. The full list with driving times is on a page of its own.
Grill hut
The Nordic hut in the park; you light the fire yourself. Free of charge, please reserve it beforehand.

Getting here

Around 15 minutes from the airport. By helicopter, into the park.

From Hanover-Langenhagen airport it is around 15 minutes via the A352 and the A2, exit Garbsen Nord. From the city centre around twenty. And anyone arriving by helicopter lands not at the airport but here: our own landing site lies in the park, one hundred and fifty metres from the main entrance.

For exhibition and business guests it is the shortest route the region has to offer. Let us know in advance so the site is clear.

The location

Schloss Ricklingen lies on the western edge of Hanover, a few minutes from the A2, exit Garbsen Nord. Meadows and field tracks begin in front of the house, and the Leine-Heide cycle route passes directly by. The estate is private ground: no public path runs through it.

Weddings, birthdays, company celebrations: if you wish, you book the Schlossresidenz for yourselves alone. Fourteen units for your guests, the long table for the evening, the park for the day after, and a breakfast that brings everyone together once more in the morning.

What is possible for a celebration

For weddings there is a team and an offer of its own: hire of the location, accommodation for your guests, a master of ceremonies, wedding design, suppliers arranged for you and catering, as full planning or only the parts you need.

What it costs depends on the number of guests, the season and your wishes. Write and tell us what you have in mind, and you will get a quotation calculated for your occasion.

The essentials first.

How do I get the 25 per cent for booking directly?
In the booking system you will find the field Discount code further down. Enter VIP25 there and then tap once beside it. A line with the deduction appears in the bill and the amount goes down. The deduction applies to the total, extras included.
What are the cancellation terms?
Until 24 hours before arrival you can cancel free of charge. After that, and if you do not arrive, we charge 90 per cent of the total. If we can let your unit to someone else, we credit that income against it. Trade fair and event dates follow their own rule, because the house is booked out long in advance then: those bookings cannot be cancelled. The dates are listed in our booking terms, and we point them out before you book.
How do I get in if I arrive late?
Through the key safe. You receive the code by message before you travel and it is valid around the clock. In the apartment you will find a folder with everything you need for the first morning.
What does parking cost?
Nothing. The spaces are directly at the house and there is a charging point for electric cars at the courtyard. We are glad to lend you bicycles, just let us know.

Is there a restaurant in the house or in the village?
Not in the house or the village, but breakfast is always included, every unit has its own kitchen, cake and drinks are available all day, and the bar in the lounge is open to you on a self-service basis. Our favourite places for dinner are a few minutes away by car: Bavaria Alm, L’Osteria and Azzurro The Beach in Garbsen and at the Blauer See, along with Kalimera in Hanover and the Wunstorfer Ratskeller.
Can I cook for myself?
Every unit has a kitchen or kitchenette with a hob, a fridge and crockery. That is why stays of several weeks work well here.
Are pets allowed?
Much as we love animals here, pets you bring with you are not possible. You will still see dogs in some of our photographs, along with alpacas, hens and swans. The animals belong to the estate, the dogs to the owner family, who live here themselves.
How quiet is it in the evening?
Quiet enough that guests mention it specifically in their reviews. The grounds are large enough that nobody hears their neighbour, and quiet hours apply in the house from 9 pm to 6 am. Smoking is outdoors, in the marked areas.
How and when do I pay?
At the time of booking, by credit card, PayPal or the other usual means. From that moment your unit is held for you, and with fourteen units that is no small thing. You can cancel free of charge until 24 hours before arrival.
Is there a ground-floor apartment?
Yes: apartment 01, Diamantfasan, at ground level with parking right outside the door. If you travel with limited mobility, please call us before booking and we will go through the details with you directly.
Can three of us come?
Yes, in 06 Singschwan, 08 Paradiesvogel, 11 Nymphensittich and 12 Kronenkranich; the large suites 13 and 14 take up to five guests. The third guest costs €70 per person per night, breakfast included. Write to us and we will tell you which unit suits you.
Is there air conditioning?
We are glad to provide a fan; the units have no air conditioning. Under the roof it can become warm on hot days, so tell us beforehand and the fan will be in the room when you arrive. If you are sensitive to heat, the lower floors suit you better; call us and we will find the right unit for you.
From what age can children come along?
From twelve years of age, and then they are warmly welcome. The house is built for quiet: fourteen units in a park, no restaurant, no entertainment programme. For small children there is little here to enjoy, no playground and no childcare, and hence the age limit.
